Health Minister Commissions US$5 Million Worth of Medical Equipment at IHZ

The Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Elijah Muchima, has officially commissioned US$5 million worth of state-of-the-art medical equipment at the International Hospital of Zambia (IHZ) – Fairview Hospital in Lusaka.

In his address, the Minister reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to transforming the health sector, highlighting that IHZ’s investment aligns perfectly with the national agenda of ensuring access to quality healthcare for all Zambians.

Speaking at the event, Ms. Wang Li, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, emphasised that the commissioning was not merely about acquiring equipment but about fulfilling commitments and turning shared visions into reality.

Mr. Shashank Mehta, Board Chairperson of IHZ, described the milestone as the beginning of a strong collaboration between Zambia and China, aimed at enhancing healthcare for the people of Zambia and the region.

During her speech, Ms. Crystal Li, General Manager of Neusoft Medical Systems, highlighted that the project not only represents advanced technology but also serves as a bridge of cooperation between China and Zambia, reflecting a shared vision of improved healthcare and stronger friendship.

Meanwhile, Dr. Luan Chunmin, CEO of IHZ, assured the nation that IHZ, along with its team of specialised doctors, remains committed to delivering world-class healthcare services locally.

The newly commissioned equipment includes a 512-slice CT scanner—the first of its kind in Zambia—a 1.5 Tesla MRI, a digital X-ray system, a mammography unit, a catheterisation laboratory (Cath Lab), and other advanced diagnostic tools.

This milestone underscores IHZ’s commitment to making Zambia a regional hub of medical excellence and ensuring that patients receive the best care right here at home.
