The International Hospital of Zambia (IHZ) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Zhang Erwei as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Dr Zhang brings to IHZ a remarkable combination of clinical expertise, academic achievement, and healthcare leadership developed over decades of service in both China and Zambia. He previously served as Director of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, one of the largest hospitals in the world, where he spearheaded advancements in complex urological surgery and minimally invasive treatments.
Dr Zhang holds a Bachelor of Medicine from Zhengzhou University, a Master of Surgery from Xi’an Jiaotong University, and a PhD in Clinical Surgery from Capital Medical University. Precision medicine, innovation, and patient-centred care have defined his career.
Dr. Zhang, a highly respected urologist, is internationally recognised for his expertise in oncological and minimally invasive procedures, including robotically assisted and laparoscopic surgeries for prostate, bladder, and kidney diseases. His work consistently focuses on achieving optimal clinical outcomes while maintaining patients’ quality of life.
Dr. Zhang is familiar with Zambia, having played an instrumental role in strengthening medical collaboration between Zambia and China. He served as a member of the Chinese Medical Team in Zambia in 2016 and later as the team leader of the China-Zambia Endoscopy Centre from 2017 to 2019. He returned in 2023 as Assistant Team Leader and in 2024 took on leadership of the China–Zambia Minimal Invasive Prostate Disease Centre, where he helped introduce advanced surgical techniques and trained local practitioners.
His ongoing engagement reflects a deep commitment to knowledge transfer, capacity building, and the development of sustainable specialist services within Zambia.
