23 April 2026, Lusaka – The International Hospital of Zambia (IHZ) has announced an average 18% salary increment for all non-management employees, with increases ranging from 10% to 100%, effective 1 April 2026.
Speaking during a staff engagement and recognition event held at the hospital, IHZ Board Chairman Shashank Mehta stated that the salary increment was aimed at enhancing staff morale, and ensure IHZ offer competitive compensation.
“If you are unhappy, then our patients will be unhappy,” Mr. Mehta said as he addressed employees during the function.
Mr. Mehta emphasised that employees are the backbone of the hospital’s operations and that management is committed to ensuring staff members feel appreciated, valued, and motivated in their roles.
At the same event, Mr. Mehta also recognised the IHZ Best Performing Employees for Q1, 2026 in a special pre-Labour Day recognition ceremony. The awardees are:
- Best Performing Nurse – Ms. Yvette Chulu
- Best Performing Maintenance Staff – Mr. Zhang Feng Gang
- Best Performing Receptionist – Ms. Vivian Mutambala
- Best Performing Gardener – Mr. Michael Mwape
- Best Performing Launderer – Ms. Donna Banda
- Best Performing Cleaner – Mr. George Mwila
Each of the best-performing employees received a One Thousand Kwacha (ZMW1,000) Shoprite Shopping Voucher.
Mr. Mehta further announced that the staff recognition awards will become a regular initiative at the hospital. He added that the awards are intended not only to recognise excellence and reward merit but also to inspire and motivate other employees to continue providing exceptional service to patients and the institution.
